Guiding Students and Leaders Through Experience

For more than four decades, I have worked at the intersection of education, broadcasting, leadership, and authorship. My journey has taken me from the classroom to the boardroom, from pioneering distance learning to leading statewide initiatives, and from writing books to coaching executives. Today, my passion is to share that experience with students, educators, and organizations seeking clarity and direction.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe education is more than transferring knowledge — it is helping people discover their own compass. When students are empowered to connect what they learn with who they are, they gain both confidence and a sense of purpose. My teaching integrates academic theory with lived experience, challenging learners to think critically while also preparing them to thrive in the real world.

  • Began teaching at Kirkwood Community College in 1968

  • Served as President & CEO of Iowa Public Television

  • Appointed to two state cabinet positions focused on education and technology

  • Pioneered individualized instruction and distance learning initiatives

  • Built one of the nation’s first fiber optic long lines for digital learning and communication

  • Published 15+ books, from leadership and personal development to spirituality and science fiction

  • Led national and corporate seminars, workshops, and executive coaching
